Hi, I’m Lisa Garrett!

Let me tell you a little bit about me, and how I can help you travel to Lyon!

I’m an engineer by profession, with a passion for travel! I got my Masters in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona, and spent over twenty years working as an engineer for Intel.

(With a 3-year stint where we owned and ran a bed and breakfast in Texas.. but that’s another story.)

As DINKs (Dual Income, No Kids), we’ve had the freedom to take a lot of amazing vacations.

Chris and I taking a gondola ride in Venice, Italy; the picture is in postcard format and says 'wish you were here!'.

This photo was from our first big international trip, our one and only group bus tour. It was a whirlwind tour of Italy with all the biggies: Rome, Florence, Venice, Pisa.

On the second half of that trip, I took a night train from Rome to Paris. And I spent two weeks living in Paris, exploring all the most famous Paris attractions.

I stayed with a host family and took Berlitz language classes in the mornings. And then I had the rest of the day free to explore the city! The museums, the sights, the atmosphere. Ah, Paris!

I kind of still can’t believe that I took a solo trip to Paris, but it was really a game changer for me. I really fell in love with the monuments and culture of France, and I just keep going back!

I Love Lyon!

Lyon was definitely the highlight of our third trip to France.

Chris and I stayed in an apartment in Vieux Lyon, just a few blocks away from the best bakery in Vieux Lyon! (Still makes my mouth water to think about those delicious pastries — I mean, look at that!)

Spiral pastry with pink sugared almonds baked into the pastry.
Lyon has some of the best pastries I’ve eaten in France. And that’s saying a lot!

We even got a tip from our local host on how to explore the traboules of Lyon.

Last summer I took a solo trip across France which finished in Lyon. Now, sometimes when you return to a place you’ve visited before, the reality is diminished vs your memories.

This wasn’t the case for Lyon! It was just as fabulous as I remembered.

Plus, I was able to have a lot more amazing experiences — such as taking a guided rooftop tour of the Notre-Dame Basilica.

I just got back from spending two whole weeks in Lyon. The weather was cold and rainy much of the time (locals said it’s never like that in April — guess I got unlucky).

But I still had a great time eating delicious food, soaking up the ambiance, and exploring parts of the city that I had missed on previous trips. And I had time to discover a many of Lyon’s off-the-beaten-path treasures, which I’ll share with you!

So, hold onto your beret! I’ve got so much fantastic information for you on how you can have an amazing trip to Lyon.

⭐ Destinations Beyond Expectations

A perfect travel day

Here’s my idea of a perfect travel day. And Lyon certainly doesn’t disappoint on any of these!

🥐 Eating pastries for breakfast and enjoying local favorite dishes at an outdoor cafe or a cozy bouchon (hmm.. that may be why my pants always shrink on vacation.)

🖼️ Visiting Lyon’s top attractions and visiting museums. I get a kick from learning nerdy details about history and architecture, or even language.

🚶‍♀️Soaking up the ambiance strolling down its cobblestone streets of Vieux Lyon or walking along the river.

🧀Shopping at markets to buy items for a picnic lunch in the Parc de la Tête d’Or

⛪Having plenty of free time to discover hidden gems and to browse shops looking for a unique French souvenir.

🚎Taking the metro (or bus) to get around when my feet hurt from too much walking. Lyon’s public transportation is very easy to use!

With my two travel blogs (Waves and Cobblestones and Travel to Lyon) I’m here to provide inside information on the best things to do in every city I visit.

That way, *you* can make the most of your vacation time!
